Comments
Comments: Conditions were good for April. The minimal new snow melted by afternoon. Lincoln Woods was mostly ice or packed snow with some bare and wet sections. Black Pond Trail was a mix of ice, packed snow and bare trail. Black Pond bushwack was mostly snow free by the end of the day with some ice and snow in the shady sections. Lincoln Brook Trail was mostly hard pack snow with some wet areas and running water. Brutus bushwack was soft decomposing ice and snow down lower. Most will melt out soon. Owls Head Path had lots of blue ice under the snow, but it was softening. I used Hillsounds and they worked well. Microspikes would be ok but heavier traction would be better on the steep sections. There's still up to three feet of snowpack at the top. Expect lots of postholing when it warms up. About two dozen made the trek to Owl's Head today.
