| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There is an annoying tree down along Dicey's Mill Trail around 43.91836,-71.37453 that I walked right into at perfect head-hitting height. I honestly don't know how I didn't see it.
Two minor trees down on Kate Sleeper, and various trees down on both Mccrillises. It has been windy. |

Happy Spring to everyone in the mountains! It is probably my last time carrying snowshoes for the season, assuming there are no more snowstorms.
Significant snow/ice doesn't start until around 2400 ft. Surprisingly, Tom Wiggin trail had been ascended previously by someone in snowshoes and a barebooter but it not significantly postholed and is very steep and icy from about 2500 to 2800 ft. My spikes were not enough and I had to grab neighboring trees. I didn't think my snowshoes would have had any better traction.. that ice was h a r d.
Blueberry Ledge is severely postholed, but they are not difficult to avoid. I had no issues with ice getting up the ledges.
Kate Sleeper has a solid middle, but you will posthole off to the side. I saw one person on the summit who was deciding whether to continue on to Passaconaway or not.
Mccrillis Trail had one set of old snowshoe tracks which turned eventually turned into a monorail and then dry trail. Mccrillis Path is WET and MUDDY and a bit difficult to follow and overgrown from Whiteface Intervale Road. |
