Pumpelly had a bit of every thing today! Bring your micro spikes or you will turn around at the long waterfall, or at least I would have! This is a beautiful trail with lots of fun scrambles and puzzles to solve. My hiking partner and I were glad we were not descending this trail! Still lots of ice on the trail but with the warmer temps it’s easy to get purchase. Only two or three people when we finally got to the summit. Pleasant day almost no wind and lots of views. Coming down Smith Summit was fun and challenging and crossing Fairy Spring was a bit scary. By the time we got to Old Toll Road, we were happy to finish with this road walk. Met lots of great people on the trail today, especially Jeff, who we met midway though Smith Summit and hiked out with us. Beautiful sunset through the trees and the Worm moon rising all the way home made for a great finish to this awesome day on Mt Monadnock. |
