Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Friday, March 18, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at Highland Center for $10. Plenty of spaces. I checked out Crawford Depot, but there was a lot of mud and I didn't want to risk it in a subcompact.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Blue, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Ice - Breakable Crust, Snow - Wet/Sticky, Snow - Spring Snow, Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The water crossings were all manageable, but the ice cover and snow bridges had deteriorated a lot by the time I came back in the afternoon. The first will be the toughest, but I think all will remain passable so long as water levels do not rise too much.

Comments
Comments: Snowshoes are a must. Microspikes were fine today for some sections of the trail, particularly at the start. However, on the ridge the snow was much softer and most people I saw in spikes were postholing frequently, especially towards the summit of Field and all along the Willey Range Trail between Field and Willey. Those parts of the trail could be in rough shape moving forward.
