Comments
Comments: An amazing traverse with moody views in and out of the clouds. The trails above tree line were either bare rock or pure ice. Valley Way and also Crawford Path descending Pierce were packed down like a highway. Microspikes the entire way. By the end of the hike, I needed new spikes due to the bare rock dulling them out. Some hikers in our group wore crampons for icy sections. The Jefferson snowfield was crossed without any issue. Glad to have carried my mountaineering ax for extra security though. Winds were manageable the entire day. It was quite windy (about 35-40mph) on Washington summit, the windiest part of the day. The hike took us just about 14 hours total, which is pretty good considering we took many breaks and our group of nine was only as fast as the slower hiker at a given time. A really great group of strong, fun hikers!
