Great day out in the woods. Lonesome Lake Trail is packed snow almost like styrofoam all the way from the parking lot to the intersection with Kinsman Ridge Trail. Hi-Cannon Trail has similar snow and several large ice bulges. I did fine with Hillsound spikes until just below the ladder and then switched to crampons. I was very glad I did as the ice bulges got larger and larger. Kinsman Ridge Trail from Hi-Cannon intersection to the summit of Cannon is packed snow. Kinsman Ridge Trail heading south from the intersection with Hi-Cannon looks like a frozen waterfall across the entire trail. Without crampons and an ice axe I would have had to turnaround. Lots and lots of very cool ice but very difficult footing and travel.
This will surely be invalidated by the storm tomorrow but the ice bulges will remain. |
