Comments
Comments: Bareboots up the Toll Road to Parker and up Cliff to Hello Rock. Mixture of soft snow, icy monorail, black and blue ice, rocks and leaves. Switched to Katoolah microspikes at the junction of Hello Rock and Toll Road. Kept them on to summit. At times, I thought about throwing on the Hillsound Pros, but did not. Summit presented some healthy gusts along with spitting rain and zero visibility. A perfect mixture to enjoy the rare opportunity of having this summit to oneself.

Descent along Marlboro to Marian was dicey. Rock, ice, rock, ice. Definitely dulled the Katoolah spikes during this stretch, along with part of Smith Summit. Donned the Hillsounds .5 miles down Marlboro and immediately wished I’d done it sooner. The softening ice conditions were perfect for the Pros and I kept them on for the remainder of the hike (although there were a few spots on Marian and Old Halfway House which I considered taking them off on).
