Warm afternoon (temps in the low 40s), so the snow was increasingly soft. Barebooters installed a few new postholes today.
The first section of trail (from the parking lot, across the first snowmobile trail, and to the second snowmobile trail) wasn't too bad in terms of posthole damage, but still not great. Snowshoes were the way to go.
Above the second snowmobile trail crossing, there were multiple Microspike Minefields of postholes. Yuck.
For the descent, I opted to take the snowmobile down to avoid the postholes. One could probably Microspike this without issue. A few bare spots emerging from snowmobile use.
Generally a mixture of sticky snow (from Saturday's snowfall) and spring snow. Microspikes looked to be balling up, but snowshoes were fine.
Full cover with maybe 1' (down low) to perhaps 2' (higher up) snowpack. |
