Comments
Comments: Today was not the day- turned around about a 0.5 from summit. Started out in micros and quickly changed into snowshoes. Trail conditions were unpleasant, to put it mildly. The recent thaw freeze conditions made for an uneven path to snowshoe on down low. But w/o the shoes it would’ve been even rougher. It looks like parts of trail has recently been rerouted out and away from drainage. Thankfully trail is well blazed, as what looks to be the reroute is not otherwise obvious. Although that portion was a pleasant snowshoe. As we started up the last steep mile of the trail we encountered deeper snow with 2-3ft deep postholes. After navigating this mess for 45 mins with minimal gain, we hit our turnaround time and started backdown the mountain. We are amazed that the postholer kept heading up the mountain. How does one do that for an entire mile w/o succumbing to exhaustion!?!
