Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Hikers that we met at the Zealand Trail trailhead coming down from the Hut (they stayed Friday night intending to hike Zealand/Bonds today) had let us know that the water crossing after the hut was not passable, and the water crossings prior to that were tricky. We decided to continue on as far as we could, and we ended up turning around at the first water crossing.

Comments
Comments: We knew at the start that we may need to turn back due to the water crossings, and although I really wanted Zealand for my February grid, the main goal was to get some miles in my running snow shoes. Zealand Road and Zealand Trail were far from ideal…super chopped up, post holed and a frozen mess. It was still great to be out, and so beautiful with the snow falling. We met one hiker on Zealand Road who stayed at the hut Friday night and let us know that the water crossing after the hut was not passable. We met another group at the Zealand Trail trailhead who also stayed at the hut Friday night intending to hike Zealand/Bonds today but also let us know the crossing was not passable. We decided to go as far as we could, to get some miles and enjoy the day. We ended up turning back at the first water crossing. On our return we passed quite a few hikers heading up to stay at the hut tonight. Fingers crossed the water crossing will be better for them tomorrow!
