Comments
Comments: Mid morning start and as I was putting on my snowshoes the owners of the other couple of cars came walking up from the Kanc. These folks couldn't find a way across the high water in the river to get up to Scar. They weren't interested in going up to West Hitchcock so they left. It was 19 degrees and snowing when I went left up the Discovery Trail until I hit the wildlife clearing. I then whacked up to the forest road, it was pretty good covered with snow, trees popping up here and there and a few blowdowns, making it so it wouldn't be any fun trying to ski it. I followed it up to about elevation 2000 and then slabbed over to cross the stream. near the streambed and then up ridge NW and N very cool open hardwoods most of the way, some soft woods on the steeper parts nearer the summit ridge. Snowshoeing was good stayed on top all the way to stream crossing and then sunk in anywhere between a couple of inches to four inches with a few punches deep down to remind me to pay attention. In the silly steep parts snowshoe crampons on my Northernlites let me scamper up just like an elk on rock. I liked walking the whole summit and I found the register this time around easily. I followed my tracks back down to the stream but the falling snow covered my shallow tracks so I found a new route back to the forest road. No other cars at the Discovery Trailhead today when I returned. Was happy the snowplow went by on the Kanc towards Lincoln to help make my drive back a little easier. NHH200 winter list :)
