Greeley Ponds Trail is very compact with a very thin layer for mashed potatoes on the top. MSR Lightning Ascents were like glue all the way up Osceola trail, although I did see people with less traction snowshoes slipping. If your snowshoes don't have great traction, crampons might be the way to go. I did see people having success with them. Seems like there was less snowshoe discipline in the col between the two summits, or maybe it was just less compacted and more prone to post holing. It wasn't terrible, but you hate to see it. The way down was definitely less pristine than the way up. If you like sledding, conditions were great for it and everyone on the trail seemed to be having a good time. There wasn't any ice to speak of, but there are still a few random rocks poking out. |
