Parked at 19 Mile Brook trailhead lot off NH 16. This was plowed. Large lot. Some roadside parking still available… today. Kiosk at end of lot. No privies. |

Met “Abel, the GSP†and his owner today. Super, super cute pup making do with the large snowfall, freezing temps and steep trails. So happy to have met you! Thanks for the stickers, dude! |

19 Mile Brook Trail > Wildcat Range Trail to summit D > and foolishly back the way we came.
Crazy people, I mean hikers, I don’t recommend this route. I forgot how brutal this out and back route was. Nonetheless….
19 Mile Brook: well blazed in blue, well maintained. Nice trench set up but not quite ready for spikes or bare boots today. I assume a group was headed up to the hut as evidenced by snow covered cars in the lot. But those suckahs used snowshoes!!! Nicely broken out trail. But even that factor didn’t stop a few people today from creating large divots in the trail.
Wildcat Ridge Trail: this is the AT and is blazed in white. We encountered two male hikers wearing snowshoes coming down from Wildcat A. Also met Abel, a super cute 4 legged type. They had broken trail from the ski slopes up Wildcat D and over to Wildcat A. Dang, that musta been a feat!
I would like to say this trail is broken out. In many respects it is. But even the two males, and the two in our group wearing snowshoes, could still barely make a dent in the recent storm’s snow. It is very soft, unconsolidated powder (with substantial drifts throughout the trail). Perfect for snowshoes. As we hiked back over the peaks, the wind had blown in all of our prior footprints. |
