Comments
Comments: Trail was packed down nicely until the steeps up East peak where it got a bit softer/looser. The ridge was a mix of softly consolidated track and some drifts. 7 of the first 9 folks up the trail wore snowshoes and maintained the integrity of the snowshoe track. The 2 booters/spikers created divots that were subsequently packed back down by the 7 SSers who followed. However, on the descent there were 4 spikers ascending who divoted the trail again - so expect the steeps and ridge to be less consolidated. Maybe a moot point if it snows tomorrow as it will all be soft anyway.

The first 2 SSers to descend decided to sit and slide on the steeps causing me to lose purchase a couple of times and unintentionally butt slide (which was sort of terrifying on the steeps around the slide!!). Myself and one other SSer packed down most of the butt slide sections but not all.

I posit that the use of snowshoes is a matter of trail etiquette and consideration for the safety and enjoyment of fellow hikers when the trails are not completely consolidated.

I agree with Rocket21 that the use of spikes when snowshoes are warranted is like not lifting the toilet seat and instead peeing on it. :-) :-)
