Nice cold, clear day out for a snowshoe.
Snowshoe track from AMC lodge up Back 80 to intersection with Back 80 Loop is frozen, uneven hardpack with postholes. Could be barebooted or walked with light traction, but after a bit, it was just easier to wear snowshoes along side the track, on the firm, crusty snow. Much faster moving.
Back 80 to Elwell Trail had old frozen snowshoe track with recent set of bareboot postholes in about a half foot of crusty snow. Bareboot postholes on Elwell Trail continued. Crusty snow varied from a few inches to over a foot. Frozen old uneven snowshoe track on Old Dicey Road, up Back 80 Loop, and even on 93Z. Walked along these on the crust.
Snowshoes stayed on the entire day.
Tagged relo on Elwell Trail to Carter-Gibbs is a nice improvement over the steep eroded section that it bypasses to the creek crossing. Made a right turn to follow this out to Old Dicey Road.
