Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked at the Discovery Trail parking lot; it was fully plowed. The bathrooms were open, though I had to bring my own toilet paper.

Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Using two different GPS tracks from prior people, I easily found the large log to cross Hancock Branch which was roaring along. Straddling and then sliding across on the log felt secure and I had no trouble.

Comments
Comments: This bushwhack was all kinds of fun. Using the GPS tracks, I thrashed along in the woods (3-12" snow) until the edge of the ridge became more pronounced and it was easier to stay on track. On the ridge edge was the only place with any detectable herdpath. There were endless small trees stabbing and slapping me, thick spruce with piles of snow on top waiting to fall and soak me, and endless blowdowns. It took me 5.5 hours round trip, with the descent in the dark. A grueling, very wet hike, but I found the summit canister, so it was a good day.
