Comments
Comments: Barebooted up to Mt. Roberts, which was well packed with some easily avoidable ice in spots. I think traction would be desirable if descending. Still a little thin for snowshoes. Only a single set of bootprints on the High Ridge loop around the summit. Much more snow on High Ridge, and it appeared to have been tracked by only one party before me; I used my snowshoes most of the rest of the way. High Ridge is a beautiful woods walk at this point! The spur to the antennas on the summit of Faraway Mountain was also tracked out. Faraway Mountain Trail was adequately covered for snowshoes, but Cold Spring Brook was getting fairly thin and there were a few areas with some open wet spots. Bareboots would probably be preferable near the bottom. Barebooted Cold Spring Brook Road back to car. I noted quite a few ski tracks through the woods coming down from Faraway Mountain and it appeared the coverage in the woods was surprisingly good for skiing.
