Comments
Comments: Absolutely beautiful, breezeless clear day to be hiking! Snow was well broken out most of the way up, though snow shoes worked best on Rollins and I kept them on until the river crossing. One word of warning: if you’re short (like me) I don’t advise doing the ledges alone. Current conditions are powder over bare rock, so crampons/micros/axe all useless. A very nice person came along just as I was trying to figure out how to get up the ledge and hauled me up the tallest one—THANK YOU! After that it was a little better, with a bit more ice cover and snow, though there are still some exposed rocks and roots (especially on the Passaconaway loop) that made snowshoeing tricky.

First winter hike of the year in the Whites!
