Comments
Comments: Lots of unconsolidated powdery snow that is deep enough to prevent crampons from getting a good bit on the underlying ice.
Barebooted from the Kanc to 3000' on the Mt Osceola Trail. Switched to Hillsound Pros, although I wish I'd brought my longer CAMPs. The climb up to 3800 was slow and grueling as usual. Summitted East and took the bypass to Mt Osceola. Great views. Switched to rain pants and micros so I could glissade on the descent. Reclimbed East and met two other gridders, Chas and George. Then glissaded/down-climbed carefully. The snow is so slippery that I was hesitant to do a full-on glissade because I found my ice axe wasn't braking that well.
