Comments
Comments: Early morning not so quick hike of the peaks with a tale of triple traction.... Barebooted until 2745 then micros until 3200 when i put grivel g12s on. These stayed on until just after climbing the chimney than switched to hillsound trail crampons. i continued with this traction until return to viewpoint just below East Osceola. Snowshoes stayed in trunk today but probably could be used in the near future depending on snowfall. trails at lower elevations are still very bony. There are several spots ascending E Osceolas where powder is hiding profuse amounts of thick bulletproof blue and clear ice. Although I ascended the chimney i opted for bypass on return trip
which is by far the safe route at this time.Chimney has thin low integrity ice covering solid ice and was tricky in a couple of spots. i found that removing the thin ice made helpful footholds. It was nice chatting with the hiker working on their winter 48 as well the the 4 other people i crossed paths with today. Many thanks to the hiker that made the trail report yesterday! it was very helpful to myself and im sure others as well.
