Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Buffalo Road is marked with Temporary No Parking signs and a letter posted at the trailhead explains available spots and fines. Trailhead lot can hold 3 cars, maybe 4 cars if everyone squeezes in/parks appropriately, and 1 car at the rock-mounted historical plaque that's 75 feet prior to the trailhead. Also at the Rumney Climbing Association lot about 0.2 mi down the road. Per the posted letter, the town of Rumney also recently laid boulder-size rocks along the road and at the trailhead as a deterrent to parking violations.

Comments
Comments: A classic trek that was great for a late-start, many other things to do but the world isn't right without a run up the mountain day. About 1-2 inches of hard packed snow on the ground that was perfect for spikes. We donned ours about 0.2 mi in, figuring, why hassle without them when they're right in our packs? - although you probably could tough it out until the summit where ice under snow along some key footholds made spikes the only sensible choice. We also proceeded straight at the loop junction so we ascended from the ?west? northwest? and I believe the actual summit maybe slightly closer to the easterly (first) summit loop.

It clouded over at the summit but still delivered lovely views of Cardigan, Cube, Stinson of course, a peek at Flume and Hancock, the Crawford-Ridgepole traverse and the Belknaps for minimal effort and a short drive from the Boston area. FYI the Clivuses at the first Rumney Meadows climber's parking lot remained open, while the unit at the second parking lot is marked closed for the winter.
