Out/back to the Wildcats (A-D) starting from Nineteen Mile Brook Trailhead, then up Wildcat Ridge Tr. NMB was mostly bare ground with plenty of ice patches making it a near continuous rock hopping exercise - but surprisingly little snow. Once on the Wildcat Ridge Tr, ascending Wildcat A, things got more interesting with 1-2" of snow cover, and more significant ice flows, some tricky to cross. Spikes went on at the NMB/WRT junction and then stayed on til that spot on the descent (actually kept them on longer, til part way down NMB.) I wore rock spikes and had trouble in some spot getting bite, the ice was very hard in spots and required extra care. In particular between Wildcat C and D, the ups/downs had some long, sketchy stretches of ice ... of every flavor ... black, blue, white ... yellow. Crampons would not have been overkill, or at least sharper spikes than what I had packed. At the Wildcat Ski summit the ground was mostly bare and somewhat sad looking, seems skiing will have to wait a bit longer.*
