Water Crossing Notes: Had 2 water crossings (w/black pond bushwack). We had packed water shoes, but did not use them. Able to rock hop/jump with a lot of extra care. Had a quick submersion of one boot on the way back, but probably could have avoided it if I been more careful

Comments: Lincoln Woods, Black Pond Trail/bushwack, Brutus bushwack, Owl's Head path

This was #48 for me. I liked this hike way more than I thought that I would. A long day, but a lot of variety. I loved hiking next to the river for much of the day! I was most worried about the water crossings, but had checked the water levels prior, and hoped for the best. No real problems with the crossings (with care). The Black pond trail is well marked with a sign off of the Lincoln Woods trail, and easy to follow. When you get to Black pond, we found it a little hard to find the bushwack, despite following the advice on other peoples posts. We used All Trails and were slightly off course at the beginning (when we passed the pond), but then easily found our way. The bushwack is easy to follow as soon as you get a bit past the "start". Took the Brutus bushwack up (on the right just after the second water crossing), and it was initially easy to follow, however, we got way off course and spent almost an hour actually bushwacking to get back on. I would suggest closely following your app to stay on that trail/bushwack if you choose it. We took the trail/slide down, which was super steep, but moving along with care it was fine. There was a wet route, and then a drier route on a little to the left (heading downhill)of that. Spectacular day! Others recommend the slide/trail up and Brutus bushwack down....maybe a better choice...idk. Saw about 50 people over the course of the day. I put this hike off for so long due to the length...but I really enjoyed it!
