Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Success Pond Road is slow going. Pretty rugged driving at times. Plenty of parking along the side of the road. I had the mountain to myself today.

Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant, Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Everything easily crossed...some flooded out sections of trail involving broken or submerged bog bridges require creative problem solving skills.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of submerged and broken bog bridges up top. Many of these sections have seen off-trail herd paths start to form over the moss which is a bummer. Many of the bridges need some love.

Comments
Comments: The last few days of rain has turned the Success Trail into a rather precarious endeavor. Lots of running water on trail, slippery leaves on the slabs, flooded larger sections of trail and more mud than I've seen in years. Very slow, messy hiking for most of the day. Plenty of "almost" falls on slippery leaves through the afternoon. Bring appropriate footwear and plan to get wet anyways.

Luckily, no rain on the hike up, just blustery winds. Great views from the Outlook side trail and the summit. The herd path to the plane was easy enough to follow, definitely worth a visit.

The hike down offered up a clear blue sky, with wild clouds twisting around the Presidentials in the distance...the drive down through Pinkham Notch afterwards was a stunner!!!
