Trail Maintenance Notes: Met the trail maintainer for Rattle River on the way out. Hank Williams enjoyed all the pats. He must be out there often enough as the trail looks really good.

Comments
Comments: Good day to stay mostly in the woods as it was cool and breezy and mostly cloudy. Rattle River is a very easy, pleasant trail and we met a handful of south bound AT hikers staying at the shelter. The way up was quiet, we went to Moriah first and Hank Williams enjoyed all the pats from a handful of hikers. Rocks were a bit wet but it was those dang wood planks that were as slippery as an ice rink after the zamboni. And there were lots and lots of planks. The lush moss they save from being trod on is beautiful. Heading over to Shelburne Moriah there is plenty of mud to watch out for. I was very happy to be wearing boots instead of trail runners. Also very happy to read recent trip reports so I approached all mud as potential limb sucking pits. I only ever sunk a few inches. The colors on the summit of Shelburne Moriah are spectacular! And i’m talking about the ground vegetation. I was wowed. And Hank can confirm I repeatedly said “Wow”. “Wow, Hank”. This peak is definitely worth the drive out to Gorham.
