Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The purpose of this report is to let the Rattle River trail maintainer know I removed two large blowdowns on the steeps, on the last mile of the Rattle River trail. The steeps are clear of blowdowns, from the two small rivers up to the Kendeskaeg junction. There are 3 or 4 large blowdowns remaining, about ten minutes prior to the two small rivers.

Comments: Quite a long rewarding day. Original plan was to clear a couple blowdowns on the Kenduskaeg trail, and bag the 52WAV Shelburne-Moriah peak. Didn't find any blowdowns on the Kenduskaeg, must have misread the report. So I took out a couple on the Rattle River trail on the way back. My apologizes to the maintainer if you prefer to do all your own work yourself. All I can say is 11 miles with an axe on your back, you kinda want to use it! BTW, I saw some great work on the drainages on the way up. Thank you, the trail looks great!
It was approaching dusk when I finished that up and I ran into two guys who were assisting an injured hiker on the steeps. Poor guy had cracked his kneecap on a rock during a fall. I was just in time to see the arrival of the first member of the search and rescue team, who had a litter folded up on his back. Numerous other members soon appeared to help. I followed them down and got a lot out of the experience. We were like a small army of headlamps in the pitch black darkness. Kudos to these guys and gals, they really know how to lead by example, while maintaining an upbeat and fun attitude. Kudos also to the police officer who met us with pizza when we finally got out at 11pm. Again, leading by example and with a great attitude, the exact polar opposite of what the irresponsible media sleazeballs portray. It was a long hard day, but a very satisfying and worthwhile experience.
