Parked at 19MB, a few open spots at 7AM. Lot was full upon return just after 2PM with parking along both sides of RT16, and someone decided to part their minivan in the lot parallel to the road directly behind me. |

Most bog bridges on CMT were in good shape but at couple could be replaced. A few blowdowns on Imp, one of which is a duck-under. |

Solo hike with no rides so I chose my preferred route of counter clockwise. Parking at 19MB and headed south down RT16 to the north (lot C) entrance of Wildcat Ski Area and then up the Polecats. Ski trails were in great shape, much improved over the past two months. WRT is well maintained, I do not recall any blowdowns and the section between A peak and 19MBT has good footing with many sections of stone steps and no erosion. CMT was up to Carter Dome was nice and dry. There are numberous sections that are typically muddy from the intersction of Carter Dome Trail over to South and Middle Carter, these were mostly avoidable with some well placed rocks and/or logs. There are a couple muddy sections that have some short paths around the muddy sections that are seeing lots of traffic, but there is no need to take these paths. NCT has some running water and some sections of significant erosion higher up, much the same on stretches Imp however current conditions are not bad.
As expected for the first Saturday in September the trails were super busy. Many through and section hikers out today and many were SOBOs. |
