Comments
Comments: If you like wet rock and mud you will love this hike. If drier conditions this hike would have been a lot of fun. The first part of the Success Tr after the former parking lot is relatively flat. That changes very shortly to a continuous up all the way to the Outlook loop. Most of this is a moderate up with some small steep parts. Rock slabs before the Outlook were soaked. Stayed to the side and hung on to whatever I could. The Outlook loop was a lot of fun with great clear views. Easy climb to the Mohoosuc Tr after the wet area with numerous bog bridges. The Mohoosuc Tr to Mt Success is fairly short with a small chimney and a few rock scrambles. These would have been awesome if they were dry. Almost turned around when I came to the chimney. Ended up butt sliding down first part (no shame). An AT thru hiker was going by when I came down the chimney. Watched how he went up the chimney and repeated on my way back. Piece of cake. Views from the summit were very clear. Loved the alpine meadow setting at the summit. Coming down was not as bad as I expected. I just took my time. Overall this is a hike worth doing again in drier conditions. This makes number 51 of 52 of "52 with a view". Shelburne Moriah next.
