| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Lot was full today with cars parking along road but most people seem to have been just heading to Emerald pool |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Crossing at lower Bicknell Ridge/Baldface Circle Junction and on Baldface Circe just after circle junction both have low water and are easily crossed |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails are in great shape - there is one stretch on Baldface Circle just before the junction with Bicknell Ridge where brush is starting to obscure path but still easy to get through |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
The stretch of ledges above baldface shelter are not dog friendly. I think many canines would have problems or need a boost in a number of places. A better option would be to head up slippery brook and take baldface knob trail and meet up with baldface circle above these ledges. Some canines might also need a little help getting up the ledges right below the summit of north baldface |

One of my favorite sets of peaks with great and lengthy ridge walking! 10 miles with 3600 feet elevation gain.
Trails were nice and dry except for the usual stretch between the lower junction of the bicknell ridge trail and the water crossin right before circle junction - here there was the usual spots of mud but easy to avoid.
This was my first time heading up the ledges above the baldface shelter and they certainly are a challenge some might say ledge scrambling at its best - a lot of hand and foothold work to get yourself up some of the shelves. Fortunately ledges were nice and dry. High clouds today and the presidentials covered but still great views with the sun coming out late afternoon. Saw 10 people up high (with numerous people at trailhead just heading for emerald pool) most coming down off south baldface and two women between north and south baldface so I ended up having both summits to myself.
For those looking for blueberries they are numerous and tasty! You'll find them beginning above the shelter and all the way along the loop until down below the eagle cascade link on the bicknell ridge trail with an uncountable number of bushes right along the trail - I certainly had my fill! |
