Trails mostly in good shape, I was honestly stunned by the amount of erosion on the Kinsman Ridge Trail from the Tramway parking lot to the first outlook. Four, five vertical feet of erosion! |

Swarms and clouds of mosquitos and black flies, pretty much everywhere other than the initial ascent. Strangely, I don't think I have more than one or two bites. I started using picaridin lotion this year...maybe this has been helping? |

Shot westward out of the Cannon today...Cannon and Cannon Balls counter-clockwise and visited both Kinsman Pond and Lonesome Lake. What a beautiful day! Cloudless ascent with patches of fog in the lowest valleys. It's a sneaky rough hike, especially the Kinsman Ridge Trail off of Cannon. The knees start to get angry going down the Fishin' Jimmy steps after bumping over the Cannon balls. Saw no one until the Kinsman Pond tentsites; on the decent seemingly as crowded as a typical summer Saturday would be.
Also glad I went around the west side of Lonesome Lake today (hadn't done that before for some reason)...the views over the lake towards Franconia Ridge was spectacular! |
