It was hot today, 80+ degrees and this was a longish hike, 7.9 miles round trip. I’m not used to this heat yet. The Lambert Ridge Trail is stunning and in great condition. There was very little mud but pretty buggy today. There are beautiful ledges that offer great views along this long ascent. Above the Smarts Ranger trail junction the steep ascent gets even steeper but it was mostly dry. Some fun scrambles to the fire tower, which was open for 360 degree views. Only saw one other person while I was descending and at the trailhead. The Ranger Trail descent was steep and slippery for the first mile or so. Then the trail is on and off mud, deep in places. This was a great hike. It’s beautiful out in this part of NH. |
