Post of trail signs at junction of Snapper Trail and Moosilauke Carriage Road is broke. Sign is propped against a tree with the proper positioning.
As noted in prior posts, the first bridge over Gorge Brook is four worn logs. It is safe for now but requires replacement soon.
Saw some recent tree cuts that cleared the trail. No major obstructions on trails. Only two easy stepovers on the Snapper Trail. |

| Comments: |
I was able to bare boot the entire hike. Snowshoes and traction never left the pack. Roots, rocks, soil, and mud at lower elevations. Occasional remnants of the base on the monorail starting just before the upper crossing of Gorge Brook. Even at higher elevations there was alternating stretches on embedded monorail and bare ground, rocks, or ledges. It appeared the deepest post holes to the side of the hard track were at most about two feet deep (most were shallower). Plenty of bare rocks to sit on at the summit.
Met several hikers including an ex croo from Lake of the Clouds and two section hikers completing the AT.
Great views from the summit with almost no wind. Good view down to The Tunnel and to the Green Mountains from South Peak. |
