Comments
Comments: Please wear micro spikes at the very least, I was concerned by the number of folks slipping and sliding down the trail. I put my micro spikes on around the split to go toward Cannon or Lonesome Lake and didn’t take them off until I reached the same point coming down. Very variable conditions, as to be expected this time of year. I would recommend trekking poles for stability but you may be putting them away and pulling them out repeatedly. A lot of melting happening, I could hear running water under the snow and ice for much of the day. At the higher elevations, keep in mind that if you can’t come down what you’re trying to go up, you probably shouldn’t be going up it. I traveled counterclockwise but think you would face the same icy, slippery conditions going in either direction. The spur to Northeast Cannon Ball was less icy than the higher reaches approaching Cannon but the soft snow was certainly slick.
