Comments
Comments: I started up the Carter Ledge Trail intending to loop up to the Middle Sisters Trail just below Middle Sisters Peak and then back via MST. I began in light traction on solid footing up to the lower junction with MST. (Snow was solid because of the early morning and sun had not had a chance to soften the surface). At this point I changed to snowshoes for the rest of the day. Encountered one set of bare booting tracks at this point and they were post holing pretty regularly from here to the summit of Middle Sisters. Snow was supportive with snowshoes all the way to the col below Blue Mountain. I entered the largely open woods and continued to have luck of a supportive crust up to the recognized high point, After registering I returned in my tracks to the col and MST. From here on back to the lower junction it was ugly. The sun had warmed the snow enough so that nearly step was breaking through the crust and made for a tedious 2 miles back to the Carter Ledge Trail. Conditions are deteriorating rapidly on trails that have not been heavily traveled after being exposed to the mid-day sun.
Snow depth above 1500' is still about 3', gradually lesser down low.
