Comments
Comments: One truck at the trailhead and room for two more cars. I skinned up the hiking trail. The trail is well packed and mirco spikes would be an okay choice. There are a few postholes and if one stepped off the packed route expect to sink deep. I zipped up on my 70mm skis using skins. The herd path to the north viewpoint is well packed out and nice view to Moosilauke over Stinson Lake and from summit the view south was hazy. On the summit I met Jim who skinned up on his AT gear. My gear is lighter and quicker up but he had a nice fast ski down carving turns while I had fun trying to stay upright and to turn and snowplow going down the wide hard packed snowmobile trail. It was just soft enough that it was fun. At the first snowmobile intersection I turned right and went a distance where the trail crosses and I turned left back down the hiking trail and had a blast the last 1/4 mile letting my skis run in the hiking track.
