Comments: The Liberty spring trail to the split of Flume Side was completely packed down and could be done without snowshoes. The Flume Slide trail had remnants of snowshoe tracks but had been snowed over since and was "unbroken" most of the way. I got a late start around 9am but the packed trail to the split made for quick going. It was nice to follow some trail on Flume Slide but then the snow drifts(small as they were) started to send me off trail. Blazes were faded or non-existent for a time and once I got to the really steep section with a mile left to top there were no tracks at all. The vertical section was just that. VERY steep but the saving grace was loose snow with a little grip. This was tiring work in snowshoes but you definitely needed their grip. Got to Flume around 1pm after the somewhat scary ravine crossing. I brought my Ice Axe and would do so again but I didn't use it. There were points I could have but I got impatient with the weather getting colder towards the top. I got to Liberty with a trail to follow after peaking Flume. Trail down was a highway that I stayed in Snowshoes for most of the way. I was the only one on this route today but I passed about four guys going up Liberty Spring trail. I was happy to have the Mountain to myself otherwise.
