My deepest apologies for not using snowshoes today. I have no excuse. I didn't think they would be necessary, but low and behold the winds had drifted snow into the trail and snowshoes really would have been ideal. As it turns out, I wasn't the only one with such a lapse in judgment, and as such, the trail would have been rototilled anyway. Nonetheless, 2 wrongs don't make a right, and snowshoes really are the best choice at present.
I did run into a handful of folks on the trail and everyone was very pleasant, with one notable exception - a gentleman who declined to say a word, not even a hello - I assume I was getting the silent treatment because I wasn't wearing snowshoes. Well, I deserved it.
All kidding aside, the ledges on the Blueberry Ledge Trail are no joke at present. Definitely crampons or proper snowshoes. Microspikes are wholly inadequate traction on the ledges. I did bring a piolet which I definitely needed to use with only microspikes. |
