Made it up the ski trail just as the resort opened. We broke trail to hit E, then followed a skier as far as A (when he went off trail and disappeared). We then broke the trail from shortly before the summit of A until about 3/4 way down to the junction. There was 6-12in of fresh powder the entire time and we never found any evidence of a prior snow-packed trail. Coming down A towards the hut was an adventure! We were super happy when we finally ran into groups starting to go up and at least didn't have to try to follow an unbroken trail, although the deep, loose powder still made it challenging.
Our plan was to do Carter Dome and the Carters, but we scrapped that given the conditions and headed out. 19MB was well established, but decimated by post-holers (some 3ft deep!!) up until the next junction. From there, spikes were ok but we kept our snowshoes on anyway. |
