Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: yea, sure there is a birch log across the brook on Dicey Mill. I don't recommend trying to cross it wearing snowshoes when it's at the end of your hike. I fell off, my partner who is a tougher guy than I, did not.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: some of the blue blazes could use refreshing.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: saw one beautiful red husky with blue eyes who was well-mannered and having a great day. no water on this loop until the aforementioned brook crossing, so bring some for fido.

Comments
Comments: it was a mixed bag of travel wear today. there were barebooters/spikers (do they do it out of spite?), conscientious snowshoers, and some ambitious skiers who went up & down Dicey Mill, some of them with snowshoes on their packs. We managed the ledges with our snowshoes (as did others) though the snow is so unconsolidated that we crawled hauled our way up any way we could. Rollins trail is unconsolidated. there were at least 5 of us in shoes that went from BL to DM and we passed another pair going the other way, but overall it's pretty choppy. evidence of one post-holer going balls deep in spots. the original plan was to also get Passaconaway, but I had been having a rough go of it all day (low energy and nauseous) and we just opted to call it.
PS: don't donate blood the day before a hike.
