A few scattered blowdowns on Gorge Brook. A couple pruned duckunders and one large widowmaker on Carriage Road. A couple small stepovers on Snapper. The signage at the Carriage / Snapper junction is on the ground. |

It's too bad the incoming weather will change these conditions a bit, because this loop was in super excellent shape today -- solid packed and smooth the whole way. I wore spikes but it could have easily been barebooted. No ice anywhere. The best winter conditions I've seen here in a while.
The summit was in and out of the clouds (mostly in), but shortly after I arrived a window opened up to reveal the undercast to the west. Just a very light wind. Overall, very uncharacteristic conditions for this peak in January. I skipped South Peak this time as it too was obscured.
All in all, a beautiful day on The Moose. |
