| Water Crossing Notes: |
None of the many water crossing were frozen over, and all required care to cross; earlier in the day that meant stepping on submerged rocks (ankle-deep) in places, but the water level subsided later in the day. Some of the smaller crossings near the ponds were covered with thin ice which obscured the underlying stepping stones (making it easy to plunge in). |

Mount Nancy, party of 3. We ascended by the usual route via the herd path at the W end of Norcross Pond. The route was obvious and very easy to follow, but narrow, very steep, and brushy. Both Nancy Pond Trail and the herd path had some icy and rocky sections, more rocks below, more ice above. Snow at the trailhead was no more than a dusting, increasing in depth to about 4" with much deeper drifts at the ponds. Snow on the herd path was about 5" but mostly concrete with a dusting on top. Our traction took a beating on the rocks. See my notes on water crossings in that section. This hike will be nicer when it gets covered with an even snowbase. We saw only one other person (solo, late) on the route. |
