Our group of 4 decided to wear traction from the parking lot. Spikes stayed on for about 2 miles and then changed to snowshoes. Shoes stayed on for remainder of trip. Nice hike up to the notch with sun peaking out occasionally. Turned onto Wildcat Ridge trail , light rain started as we neared the summit of Wildcat A. Ridge was uneventful with clouds blocking most of the views, while occasionally getting a peek. Snow was soft and compacted nicely under the snowshoes, some avoidable slushy spots. Wind picked up as we neared Wildcat D. We layered up, took some photos, had a quick snack and headed down the ski trail. Polecat was closed to skiers and was mostly covered with snow. |
