Overall phenomenal experience. Our first time on the presidential range. The day started out cold and within an hour of hiking, we had risen above the treeline. Everything was covered in a beautiful layer of frost. Even found some of the infamous ice hair growing on rotting branches! We hiked below cloud cover for a while, then in it, then under again, and in, and above, and so on and so forth the entire time (including the summit and journey back down).
More rock hopping than what I was expecting. Simba, my 10 month old collie, had the best time of his life. I would not, however recommend this trail to most dogs - especially the last half mile to the summit.
We will be taking the Cornice up to the ridgeline in the future as the main trail had far too many sharp and loose rocks. Took us 2.5 hrs to hike up and 1.5 hrs to hike/jog down. |
