Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Carter Dome, NH
Trails
Trails: Bog Brook Trail, Rainbow Trail, Wild River Trail, Wildcat River Trail, FR 233
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Thursday, October 22, 2020
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The Class VI portion of the road was graded last week (I passed the grader on my way in when I hiked the Wildcats) so it's all in fine shape.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant, Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The three brooks near the Wildcat River/Bog Brook trail junction are pretty plump right now, making the crossings non-trivial.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Bog bridges are fairly uniformly rotting out. There were several blow-downs as well. Don't expect a pristine trail. But then again, you're beyond the heart of the Whites, so if you're into austere, this is it.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Paw prints, but I had the mountain to myself today. No sign of rover... not hide nor hair.
Bugs
Bugs: Minor at the absolute worst.

Comments
Comments: Getting to Rainbow is half the fun. For the uninitiated, it's well worth it. It was a hell of a hike, but wow, it was a hell of a day.

Photos and a write-up are on my blog.
