Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: What an adventure for the family minivan! Although it wasn’t in the directions we brought, we turned right off Rt. 16N at a bridge pointing toward Rt. 16 truck bypass where a small sight Pointed toward Success Pond trails. Turned right at a sign there. Early part of the road was kind of dicey but then it leveled out and there was plenty of parking by the trail sign which was a 0.4 mi walk to the start, I think.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Water? What water? With the drought there was barely any bogginess for the bog bridges.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Few rotted bridges otherwise excellent.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw one and it was doing fine at the summit. I’m not a dog owner however the lack of water on the trail lately meant dog owners really have to bring enough.
Bugs
Bugs: None! despite the 70-degree temps and humidity
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Pair of women’s glasses are resting at the Mt. Success Summit sign, Perched at the base of the Mahoosuc Tr sign.

Comments
Comments: After meeting fellow hikers and reading reports about the poor quality this road we kept avoiding it but at 48 of the 52WAV there was no choice but to suck it up and tackle the drive. Thanks to David and Moose for sharing that the road wasn’t that bad. Not sure I’d want to subject the car to it often but we made it. Half dozen cars when we arrived at 11:15 am. While the clouds rolled in obscuring the Presi’s it was still well worth the trek. The Overlook Loop is a must.

We ignored a herd path strangely marked with yellow and blue blazes about 100 yards prior to the junction of the Mahoosuc trail (on the left). It appear to rise up to the top but when oncoming hikers said it was not part of the trail we kept moving.

Views were very well worth it esp in peak foliage. Stunning colors, markedly more than just a week ago.
Glad we overshot the actual summit Glad we overshot the actual summit by 0.2 mi for the finest view of the day. Running late on time so we did not attempt to find a plane crash. Now it’s 49/52WAV and I don’t want this list to end. Every weekend brings a summit that’s more stunning than the previous.
