Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Easy. Water levels are low. Crossing uphill from shelter looks like it may be difficult in high water based on the stream bed.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: About a half dozen trees across the Kenduskeag Trail between Rattle River and Mt Moriah. Most are walk/duck under and one step over. One large birch down across Rattle River Trail. All obstructions were easy to get by. Most of the bog bridges are in good condition. Occasionally there is a broken plank. Many rock steps has prevented any ectensive erosion in steep sections.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: One friendly dog named Tuckerman. Another dog was barking at the approach of strangers. I avoided these hikers stopped on Rattle River Trail just before the junction of Kenduskeag Trail. The trails are good for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: None

Comments
Comments: Not too many other hikers on Rattle River and Kenduskeag Trails. The largest gathering of hikers were on the Mt Moriah summit ledges. The view of Mt Washington, Northern Presidentials, and Great Gulf are best from Mt Moriah. The views from Shelburne Moriah are more expansive than on Mt Moriah. The views of the Kilkenny Range and the Mahoosuc Range from Shelburne Moriah are particularly striking. The Kenduskeag Trail to Shelburne Moriah passes through alpine bogs on plank bridges. Scattered fall leaf colors (maple, mountain ash, and blueberry). Gray Jays on Mt Moriah.
