We were the 3rd car at 8:30 am; lot was full upon return. We passed three or four late day parties looking to camp toward Carrigain - fabulous weather for it though cold nights. |

great shape though brushy between the ponds. Thanks to previous poster Chef who counted 173 bog bridges. Great idea to while away the miles. We got 176 bridges one time, 180 the next. I guess we still have to practice our counting. Seriously we owe a debt to trail tenders everywhere, like here. Despite some erosion on the 0.4 mi steeps above Nancy Cascade trails were in great shape.
The unmaintained herd path to the top was easy to find - no cairn or flagging, just keep your eyes peeled for what looks like a tire road to the right of a clearing marked with a No Camping sign. Steep, eroded and very brushy - reminded me of Redington in ME. However very manageable. We did not see either a summit sign or a canister, and the lovely man we met at the top was off to search for it. |

The WMG was right - this trail has it all: stunning views of just about every zone in the Whites, serene ponds, and enough challenge to clear the extraneous worries and stay focused. The view into the Bonds at the ledge where the Nancy Pond Tr. crosses beneath Norcross Pond and heads to Carrigain Notch Tr is priceless - and while not a 360-degree sweep, the view from Nancy’s summit was worth the price of admission.
Thanks to the Flags on the 48 teams - we saw flags on Carrigain, Eisenhower, and Washington, plus several flyovers. Then and now, may we honor the fallen, take care of the lost, and remain grateful for the first responders and military who save us.
