Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Driving north on route 16 in Maine we took Paramanchenee Rd and followed it for about 3.75 miles forked left on Abbott Brook Rd. Followed it for 5.5 miles +/-, forked right-ish and in another 4/10th of a mile we found enough room to get the truck off the road and park. Once parked, you’ll need to bushwhack south 100 yards or so picking up West Branch Road and the pedestrian bridge that leads to the Dartmouth cabins and Hell Gate Pond Trail.

Comments
Comments: This mountain is on the NH 2000-Footer and NH 500 Highest list.

After crossing pedestrian bridge, we continued south crossing the field with a Dartmouth cabin to our left we picked up the Hell Gate Pond Trail and followed it for a ½ mile or so to a junction. Hell Gate Pond Trail forks west, we continued south toward Lamb Valley Pond. Just under a mile or so we hit majestic Lamb Valley Pond. We double back a short distance and picked up a very old and overgrown “Lamb Valley Road” running northwest passing a beaver pond with custom build beaver hut, turning west we had an easy hop over the pond’s feeder stream.

Once over and through a short distance of hobble brush we started climbing southwest straight up next to some ledge in nice woods. After a about 300 feet of steeps and nice woods we hit an area of regrowth, rather than going into it we skirted / slabbed it for a ¼ mile or so still heading southwest, back into nice woods, then into tight woods, then regrowth and back into nice woods and soon hit the recognized high point. After signing in on our last mountain on the NH 500 Highest list we placed an orange PVC canister / register. On our return trip we followed our footsteps back picking up a couple other gems, Hell Gate Pond and Hell Gate Gorge / Falls.

With this mountain complete it closes our quest to hit the NH 500 Highest peak. It’s been great adventure with my beautiful bride Mary.
