Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Guinea Pond, NH
Trails
Trails: Guinea Pond Trail, Guinea Pond Spur, High Water Detour
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, August 9, 2020
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: At the junction of Sandwich Notch Rd. and FR 400 in Sandwich. The road to this point is fine for any vehicle with careful driving from the Sandwich end. I barely saw anyone on the road in the early morning but it was bustling when I drove out around 11:30.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No issues. Water is low right now and the Beebe River crossings were easy.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: GPT is fine. The spur trail to the pond is overgrown with several blowdowns. I took out some easy ones and a few low stepovers remain. There's one larger waist-high blowdown near the end of the trail. Crossing the marshy area is vague, and there are two sort-of-worn paths which rejoin on the other side. Both the sign and signpost at the start of the trail are gone. The high water detour of GPT is fairly brushy when crossing the powerline cut, but not head-high like last time I did it.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Sure. I saw three today.
Bugs
Bugs: Some skeeters but not bad.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: Just a short out and back from Sandwich Notch Rd. to the pond to check these trails for the WMG. Everything was pretty dry, and the sometimes flooded areas weren't a problem today, just a small amount of water and minor mud. The marsh crossing on the spur trail was a bit squishy, but not too wet. I saw five people and three dogs, the most I've ever encountered out here. Still a very quiet corner of the Whites.
