Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I took out the mid-size blowdown hanging above the trail on the cliff spur. Ordinarily I won't tackle widow makers because they're too dangerous, but I was able to figure out a 3-step procedure for safely taking this one down.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: River is near. May want some for the top, if you plan to have lunch at the view point.
Bugs: Some mosquitoes and eye flies at start. I put on just a light dusting of deet30, just to keep them out of my eyes and ears mainly. They were gone shortly after that.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found:
Comments: This trail is short. It's literally wham, bam, there's the cliff, Ma'am.
So, I looked up and saw a fairly obvious bushwhack herd path heading towards the summit. It was steep and soon required leaving my poles so I could use both hands to pull myself up. There was a lot of weaving thru cliffs, and I became concerned I wouldn't be able to remember the way to weave back down. So I used Gaia to record my path, and kept looking back and memorizing small landmarks. About 6:15, I turned back at around 2700 ft, a couple hundred feet shy of the summit. It seemed like a wise move since the forest was getting dim and I had weaved through the cliffs beyond what I could safely remember for a first pass, and I'm not that great with Gaia yet. But I did get a good adrenaline rush out of a couple of the scrambles, and with the blowdown work it was a decent outing. To recommend this trail, I'd have to say either do it for a redline, or for a nice quiet place to sit for lunch and a nice little view.
